Wednesday, May 24, 2000

The Correct Answer is C

The dialysis patient should be treated on the day after their dialysis. Dialysis is usually done every 2-3 days. The day after the patients blood is clean and they feel the best. As the time for another session approaches the patient fells worse. The sessions take 3-5 hours and leave the patient feeling somewhat drained. (No pun intended) The dialysis destroys the platelets and alters their aggregation so the patients bleeding time should be monitored prior the surgery. Dosages of drugs that are eliminated in the kidneys may need to be modified. Aspirin, Tylenol, motrin, PCN, valium, TCN.
